Chinese painting differs from Western paintings in different ways. The lines and shapes and textures in Chinese paintings are less 'busy' than Western paintings, sometimes a Chinese painting consists of only a few lines. Chinese painting also deals with different subject matter than Western painting. Generally the scenes are of landscapes with very small people, while in Western painting, the people are often the focus of the painting. Usually paintings that are of one person will be of someone who was influential in old times, such as a king. Even today much of Chinese painting is done in the old style, although some painters are beginning to mix the old style with the new. Many Chinese painters continue to copy the paintings of great painters from long ago even today.
